“Background: Bleeding often poses significant life-threatening situations to surgeons. After trauma, a one-third of civilian casualties and one-half of combat casualties die as a result of exsanguination. Materials and Methods: A total of 3884 clinicians and 292 radiologists were invited by e-mail to participate in two internet surveys, COVER (for clinical specialists and general practitioners) and ROVER (for radiologists). Respondents were asked to state their level of agreement with 46 statements according to a Likert scale. Dichotomized results were compared by using the x 2 statistic.

The analysis of the above infections includes similarities and differences in infection patterns and attempts to clarify possible risk factors for such infections to include duration of catheter placement, type of catheter, preprocedural antibiotics, and tunnel vs nontunneled catheters. The goal of this analysis is to assist in the development of protocols that may prevent future catheter infections.

Methods. Clinical data were obtained

from five previously healthy male soldiers receiving acute care at Brooke Army Medical Center using continuous peripheral nerve catheters for postoperative pain for multiple and frequent procedures.

Results. In a total of six catheter infections, two were noted to have superficial skin infections while four were shown to have deep tissue involvement confirmed AZD4547 research buy by imaging studies. Intra-and interobserver correlations for both measurements were 0.94 and 0.92 and 0.86 and 0.77, respectively. MF/ST ratio was 0.54 versus 0.76 (P < .001), and ST length extending posterior to the MF was 10.97 versus 5.24 mm (P < .001).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the charts of all PD patients with recent peritonitis for which the PD catheter was removed between 1 January 2003 and 30 April 2009. Data including basic demographics, the organism isolated from effluent and from the PD catheter, reason for catheter removal, duration of hospitalization, and development of intra-abdominal collection were extracted as well as mortality within 8 weeks post removal and return to PD after catheter removal.

Results: Fungal peritonitis was the most common reason for PD catheter removal. 20% of the patients developed an intra-abdominal collection. Mortality related to PD catheter removal was low (3/53; 5.6%).
