Study design. Clinical data, microscopical characteristics, and ki-67 immunoexpression
were comparatively analyzed on 2 intraoral sebaceous adenomas, 6 intraoral sebaceous hyperplasias, and 21 normal intraoral sebaceous glands.
Results. Clinically, sebaceous glands presented as multiple separated papules, sebaceous hyperplasias as a single enlarged papule, and sebaceous adenoma as a well-defined nodule. Microscopically, sebaceous adenoma presented DZNeP clinical trial an increased number of lobules, smaller lobules, and a greater number of germinative/squamous cells. Sebaceous hyperplasia also had an increased number of lobules and fewer number of germinative/squamous cells, as compared to normal oral sebaceous glands. Ki-67 expression was seen only in germinative cells and counts were higher in sebaceous adenomas followed by hyperplasias and normal glands.
Conclusions. Sebaceous hyperplasias and adenomas showed different clinical, microscopic, and proliferative characteristics, suggesting the usefulness of the studied criteria on diagnosis of these uncommon oral lesions. (Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol Endod 2009; 107: 100-104)”
“Objective. The magnification and distortion of images made from scanning and nonscanning CCD cephalometric systems was evaluated.
Study design. Acrylic box and dry human skull phantoms
were imaged using a conventional cephalostat, the nonscanning Kodak 8000C, the horizontally scanning GE/Instrumentarium OC100D, and the vertically scanning Sirona OrthophosDS. True linear and angular measurements of the phantoms Proteasome inhibitor find more were made using a coordinate measuring system and the
Hitachi MercuRay cone beam system. The accuracy of linear and angular measurements was assessed, as were magnification and distortion, where appropriate.
Results. Statistically significant differences between linear and angular measurements were found for almost all measurements for both phantoms. In general, the conventional cephalostat and Sirona OrthophosDS systems produced the greatest magnification and distortion while the GE/Instrumentarium OC 100D and Kodak 8000C systems, the least.
Conclusions. Measurement differences related to the beam geometries of these systems could not be predicted a priori. Unaccounted for, these differences could result in clinically significant consequences. (Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol Endod 2009; 107: 105-112)”
“We herein describe a molecular analysis based on the 3′ region of the glycoprotein C gene of 45 bovine herpesvirus (BoHV) isolates from Brazil (n = 41), Uruguay (n = 2) and Argentina (n = 2). Nucleotide (nt) sequencing and alignment of 333 nt revealed levels of similarity ranging from 99.1% to 100% among BoHV-1 sequences (n = 12); 96.2-100% among BoHV-5 sequences (n = 32); and 77.7-90.3% between BoHV-1 and BoHV-5 sequences.
